Trends in the Market
As we look at the evolution of the pandemic and advances in sustainability I am seeing that we have shifted the way the architectural design is perceived in 2022. I notice there is a sizable appreciation for unique craftsmanship as well as a trend toward mixing styles, finishes, and unique features in staircase design. The use of visually personalized finishes with sustainable features is rising in popularity in the design world.
There is an upward trend toward metal staircases in both residential and commercial properties. Metal structures are strong, durable, and built to last. A big shift towards sustainability over the past year means metal structures are the increasingly preferred choice. In my experience, metal railings are the most highly functional, resistant to temperature change, and a worthwhile long-term investment.
I like to bring the great outdoors and natural finishes into an interior setting–this was also a huge inspiration for architects in 2021. The stripped-back, industrial finishes of raw steel continues to rise in popularity; the idea of injecting character and textures into staircase design.
In the height of sustainability, I do believe there is a delicate aesthetic towards more natural materials in architectural design. Architects have been increasingly incorporating the natural world into their design by using timber elements in structures. The idea of pairing timber treads with metalwork staircase structures is certainly becoming a popular option; particularly Oak and Sapele timber for a classic appearance.
I see the floating design as a uniquely intelligent piece of architecture for designers and homeowners. For the client whose tastes are sharply on-trend, this staircase features tasteful lines and a unique floating design. The structure can be crafted from a wide range of natural materials and adds a contemporary twist to any design.
